1. Terri Schiavo: Federal court review (S. 686): Passed: 203 58. Terri Schindler Schiavo was a Florida woman with severe cognitive disabilities who depended upon a feeding tube for nuitrition and fluids. On March 18, as a result of a state court order, this tube was withdrawn. National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) supported legislation in Congress to allow further legal proceedings, in federal court, that might save her life. S. 686 granted a right to the parents of Terri Schiavo to obtain federal court review, anew, of all the factual and legal issues bearing on her rights under the U.S. Constitution and federal law. Because the vote occurred during a special session called on short notice during the congressional Easter recess, 174 House members were not present for the vote. (Roll Call No. 90 3/21/05)

2. Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (CIANA) passage: Passed: 270 157. The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (H.R. 748, CIANA) would prohibit transporting a minor across state lines for an abortion if this evades the right of her parents to be involved, and would require an abortionist to notify a parent of a minor who resides in another state, with certain exceptions. NRLC supported passage of the bill. (Roll Call No. 144 4/27/05)

3. CIANA: hostile Scott Amendment: Failed: 179 245. Rep. Scott, an opponent of the bill, offered a pro abortion amendment that would have allowed the establishment of paid shuttle services to take minors across state lines for abortions. NRLC opposed the Scott Amendment. (Roll Call No. 141 4/27/05)

4. CIANA: hostile Jackson Lee Amendment Failed: 177 254. Rep. Jackson Lee, an opponent of the bill, offered a pro abortion amendment to exempt from the scope of the bill many non parents, including leaders of religious cults or clergy directly associated with abortion providers, to transport minors across state lines for abortions without notice to a parent. NRLC opposed the Jackson Lee Amendment. (Roll Call No. 242 & 142 4/27/05)

5. Funding of embryo killing stem cell research (HR 810): Passed: 238 194. HR 810 would require taxpayer funding of human embryonic stem cell research which kills human embryos. NRLC strongly opposed the bill. (Roll Call No. 204 5/24/05)

6. Abortion in military medical facilities: Failed: 194 233. Current law prohibits the use of U.S. military medical facilities for abortion, except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest. During consideration of the 2006 Defense Authorization bill, Congresswoman Davis offered a pro abortion amendment to repeal this ban as applied to overseas facilities. NRLC opposed the amendment (Roll Call No. 216 5/25/05).

7. Coercive Abortion/United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA): Failed: 192 233. The UNFPA does not currently receive funding from the U.S. government, because the UNFPA's support for China's population control program which relies heavily upon coerced abortions violates a U.S. law known as the Kemp Kasten Anti Coercion Amendment. Pro abortion Rep. Maloney offered an amendment that would have exempted the UNFPA from the Kemp Kasten anti coercion law, and from any other restrictions, such as the 1973 Helms Amendment that prohibits the use of U.S. foreign aid funds to pay for abortions. NRLC opposed the amendment (Roll Call No. 266 6/16/05).
