A Message From WVFL President,
Shirley J. Stanton

Dear Friends for Life,

Thanks you for your continued support for life for all unborn babies. In this Presidential election year, we must support candidates who believe in the sanctity of life.

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan wrote a book entitled "Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation" deploring the abortion of 15,000,000 babies in the 10 years following the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade.

His editor wrote, "Perhaps the most unusual thing about this book is that it exists at all ... and so is the fact that a president should choose to write on the most controversial issue of our time...clearly, it is Mr. Reagan’s own conscience that causes him to do so."

Malcolm Muggeridge, editor of the English humor magazine Punch, wrote to Reagan’s editor, after receiving a copy of Reagan’s book, "What impresses me most is that a President of the United States while in office should have the courage and honesty to commit himself ... to de-legalizing abortion." He further stated that "...on such vital moral issues as abortion, politicians tend to sit on the fence, hoping to pick up a few votes from both sides ... Your President is the only example I’ve come across in half a century of knockabout journalism of a political leader ready to stand up without any reservations for the sanctity of life...".

West Virginians for Life, Inc. seeks out and supports political leaders ready to stand up for the sanctity of life and the de-legalization of abortion. The words above were written 25 years ago but the battle rages on.
