Dear pro-life friends,
West Virginians for Life has been warning about the dangers to you and your family of ObamaCare (The Affordable Care Act). Under this health care law, bureaucrats in Washington will make the health care decisions that affect you.
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius already issued rules requiring all insurers, including self-insured churches, to provide—free of charge—all birth control devices, even those that cause abortions. There is no respect for the First Amendment. Anytime the Obama administration wants, Secretary Sebelius can make similar rules about abortion coverage.
Under the new health care law, it is not just the unborn who are threatened by the cold hand of government. Now it is also we, the already born, who are in danger, because the inevitable result of ObamaCare will be the rationing of medical care. At some point, “they will run out of other people’s money.” Rationed care leads to involuntary euthanasia of the elderly and of those whose “quality of life” is considered too poor, based on someone else’s opinion. ObamaCare’s “Independent Payment Advisory Board” (IPAB), popularly known as the “Death Panel,” will tell you and your doctor what health care you can get and how expensive it can be–even if you are willing to pay for it yourself.
In June, the Supreme Court ruled that the Congress can enact such laws as part of their taxing authority. Those of us, who believe that ObamaCare is an enormous over-reach of the government into the private lives of Americans, were disappointed with the decision. But—what the Court said was that our democracy has to function in this case: It is the responsibility of the people and their elected representatives to determine what laws will be passed and what taxes government can impose.
