The Hope of Spring
Dear Friends,
We hope you enjoyed the beauty of the winter holiday season. As warmer weather and longer days approach, it’s hard not to look ahead with anticipation to the renewal, hope, and optimism so often associated with spring. This fresh energy and sense of growth are not only visible in the changing season, but also within our pro-life movement.
The March for Life in January is always a powerful way to begin a new year of pro-life activism. While I was unable to attend in person this year, it was deeply encouraging to see tens of thousands of like-minded individuals gather—both at the March for Life in Washington, D.C., and at the Walk for Life West Coast in San Francisco. People of all ages, religions, backgrounds, and even differing political views in other areas came together, united in the fight for life.
Reflecting the hope and newness of spring, the co-chair of Walk for Life West Coast shared, “After 22 years, I still find it hard to believe how blessed we are. When I see the enormous crowd that we had today—especially so many young people standing up with love and hope for women and children—I am filled with gratitude and hope. You can’t come to the Walk without seeing the promise of a better world!” 1
Inspired by these energizing events, I look forward with optimism to all that we hope to accomplish in the year ahead. Our legislative agenda includes bills that will continue to strengthen protections for women and children in our state, while also providing meaningful resources to women in vulnerable situations—resources that empower them to choose life for their babies and support them after birth.
Our opposition often claims that the pro-life movement is concerned only with children in the womb. Yet one of our guiding principles has always been, and will continue to be, “Love them both.” West Virginians for Life demonstrates this commitment by advocating for both women and their children, including our ongoing efforts to fight against chemical abortion pills—the most commonly used form of abortion today and the one associated with the most serious physical complications.
The Rose Dinner—our spring fundraising event—is another powerful source of renewal and optimism. If you enjoy a good laugh (and honestly, who doesn’t?), you won’t want to miss this year’s keynote speaker: Seth Dillon of the Christian satirical news site The Babylon Bee. There’s no better way to spend an April evening than sharing a great meal, enjoying fellowship with fellow pro-lifers, and supporting a cause we all care deeply about.
As we look ahead to all that we have planned for the year—and reflect on the promise of new life, healing, and rejuvenation that our movement both strives for and promotes—spring feels like the perfect metaphor for the pro-life cause. Thank you for continuing to walk with us and for being part of this beautiful season.
For Life,
